What to Expect During Your Roof Replacement

Getting a new roof is a big job, but don’t worry! At Canuck Roofing, we’re here to make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible. If you’re wondering what to expect during a reroofing project, here’s a quick guide to help you prepare.

1. A Crane Will Hoist Materials to the Roof

To safely move heavy materials like shingles and plywood, we use a crane. You’ll see it lifting supplies right onto your roof. It might look intense, but this is a normal part of the process and helps keep things efficient.

2. A Disposal Bin Will Be Placed Outside Your Home

Once materials are delivered, a large disposal bin (usually on your driveway or close to the property) will be placed. Depending on the access to your roof, a disposal bin might be placed on your property before the material is craned to the roof. This is where the old roofing materials will go when they’re removed. Make sure the area is clear so we can safely place and access the bin. You also want to ensure you remove any vehicles from your driveway beforehand, as the disposal bin will be onsite for the entire duration of the project.

3. It Will Be Noisy

Roofing work isn’t quiet—there will be hammering, walking on the roof, and other construction sounds. It’s best to plan for some noise during the day. If you work from home, you might want to use headphones or work from a different location. Along with noise, there are a lot of vibrations that will transfer into your home.

4. There Will Be Some Debris and Cleanup – Here’s What We Expect and What You Can Do

Our crew works hard to keep your property as clean as possible, but you can expect some dust, nails, and shingle pieces during the job. At the end, we do a full cleanup, including sweeping with a magnet to catch nails. We care about your property. We use tarps and plywood to protect gardens, patios, and any nearby windows from falling debris. We recommend removing outdoor furniture or interior decor and paintings to avoid potential damage. If you have anything fragile, it’s a good idea to move it just in case.

6. You’ll Have a Main Point of Contact

During the project, you’ll be assigned a Sales Representative and a Project Manager from start to finish. Your Project Manager will update you on your reroofing progress, answer any questions, and be your go-to contact. You won’t be left guessing.

7. Project Duration

Most residential reroofing projects are completed within a week, depending on the size of your property and the weather. Rain or strong winds might delay the work for safety reasons. We’ll always keep you informed if schedules change.

8. Access to Your Driveway or Yard May Be Limited

With the disposal bin, crane, and roofing team at work, your driveway and nearby yard may be in use. Please plan ahead by parking on the street or clearing any items you’ll need access to.

9. Pets and Kids

If you have pets or small children, it’s a good idea to keep them inside during work hours. The noise and activity can be stressful for animals, and we want to keep everyone safe. We will ensure all hazards are assessed at the end of every working day.
